Treatment Approach for Back Pain.

Quite possibly the most common injury I treat is back pain. I regularly get asked what makes my approach different from the all too common “cookie cutter approaches” so many practitioners offer. My philosophy for treating low back pain begins and ends with you, the patient. Taking a holistic approach gets to the root cause of your pain and does not look to just treat the symptoms you are presently experiencing.

How I approach treating low back pain incorporates a combination of manual therapy interventions as well as targeted therapeutic exercise interventions to decrease pain, promote healing, stabilize and strengthen as a means of ultimately improving function.

Manual therapy interventions serve the purpose of decreasing any tissue or muscular adhesions as well as improve the mobility throughout the spine and any other restricted joints contributing to your pain. These techniques include massage strategies, targeted muscle releases, stretching, joint mobilizations and manipulations.

Another key focus of this approach is therapeutic exercise. More often than not, individuals experiencing back pain need more stability and strength. After a thorough evaluation all areas of deficiency are identified and a strategy is implemented to carefully progress the exercises appropriately.

With each individual intervention, either hands on performed by the PT or a targeted exercise performed by the patient, the goal remains the same – to improve your function.
